As an adult African-American male raised from a lower middle class family, with attention deficit disorder growing up was always told that I was also a slow learner. However, was always able to understand with hands on experience, being able to do a problem, working it out, as oppose to doing it out of the book. It allowed me to understand others and their struggles working in a normal environment;hyperactivity, bahavior disorders. I have worked in a mentally challenged facilities in the Augusta area (Gracewood Hosp.,Ga. Regional, and Aug.Corr.Medical Inst.80-84).I also have a 17yr old son who is diagnosed with ADHD and my family have had to make special provisions for his learning ability.
