I have been an excellent student my entire life. I always excelled in my subjects, even up into college. In high school, I piled on many extra curricular activities on top of strenuous coursework, yet I still maintained nearly a 4.0. Some coursework included AP Calculus, AP English, Symphonic Band, Economics, and Comparative Religions. I excelled in Latin as well, having taken it for three years and scoring very well in the National Latin Exam. My strong academics allowed me to become a member of the National Honor Society for 2 years.I was actively involved in band as the drum major and president; theater where I held many large roles such as Will Parker in Oklahoma! and Glenn Cooper in Rumors; choir; art club; and 4 years as class of 2007 representative on student council. I am a very talented musician. I have played flute and taken lessons for nearly 10 years and saxophone for about 6 (no sax lessons). I had been in the Indiana All State Band, the best high school band of Indiana, for 3 years on flute, and this past school year, I was one of three freshman to earn a spot in Indiana State University's top wind ensemble. I am also a talented artist. I earned the 2D and 3D art awards in my time at high school. I have experience in ceramics and drawing. My freshman year of college I spent at Indiana State University as a Music Business major. I excelled greatly there as well, earning a cumulative 3.8 GPA for the year. I was top of the class in nearly all of my music classes such as Music Theory 111 and Music Skills 113. Some other college coursework included Biology 112 and lab, Economics 201 (Macroecon.), English 107 (Rhetoric and Writing), Psychology 101, and Communications 101 (Speech). This year I will be attending IPFW, major undecided. I know how to manage time very well, and I can offer advice on how to do so to students. I have experience being a mentor and leader as my position as drum major taught me about that, as well as being an uncle to 3 children for nearly 13 years. I am very considerate and friendly with kids, but I do expect they return the favor with the desire to learn and better themselves. I would tutor students by going step by step with them through the coursework, finding out their trouble spots and addressing them one by one. It is key to progress slowly in order to fully learn something. I will make sure students see the "big picture" in their homework, rather than just going through the motions to get an answer.
