I have a Masters in Divinity, so I also understand the academic side of religion. My experience in Japan and involvement with many different cultures has given me insight into the many religions of the world.

More On Craig's Subjects:

  • Bible studies

I have been studying the Bible for almost 30 years. I began helping others to study the Bible 25 years ago and have continually led Bible studies and helped others to study the Bible since then. I went to Seminary and studied Biblical Greek and Hebrew. I have been a pastor for 13 years. Many have told me my explanations are very helpful and clear. I do have my own theology, but I am happy to help anyone with any background study and understand the Bible without requiring them to believe as I do.

  • ESL/ESOL

I have a certificate in TESOL from Portland State University. I have tutored non-native speakers of English for more than 20 years. I taught English and English Conversation classes in Japan for 12 years. I taught all ages from Kindergarten to Adult. I did private lessons, corporate and institutional classes, group lessons, and university classes. My students have always told me how good a teacher I was, helping them to understand how to improve their English. Intermediate and Advanced students consistently told me how helpful my grammar and vocabulary explanations were.

  • guitar

I have been playing acoustic guitar since 1984. I have developed a system for teaching others that can have them playing chords for many songs in about one month. If a student is willing to practice as I show them to practice, they will learn to play the guitar, and they will learn how to teach themselves, so that they can continue to improve their skill on their own. If you are willing to meet with me once a week or so and practice 10 or more minutes a day, you will learn to play the guitar as you want to. I do not teach scales or reading notes, and I do not teach Classical Guitar. I teach rhythm guitar or folk guitar. If this is what you want to learn, I am your teacher.

  • Japanese

I studied Japanese in University for two years, and I lived and worked in Japan for a total of more than 12 years. I have become fluent in speaking Japanese. My reading and writing abilities are intermediate, but my conversational Japanese has reached the point where I have been mistaken for a native speaker on the phone. I seem to have a good ear for the pronunciation and intonation of Japanese. I also have developed a deep understanding of Japanese culture. I have found this to be very helpful in communicating effectively in Japanese. My wife and teenage children are all native speakers of Japanese, and even though we live in the USA, we speak Japanese in our house. I am recognized as a useful and supportive teacher who can help any student learn what they want to learn.

  • religion

I have been seeking to understand the religions of the world most of my life. I enjoy helping others understand religion, and many have told me how helpful and clear my explanations are. I have formally studied Christianity and Buddhism, and I have informally studied Islam, Hinduism, Taoism, Confucianism, Shintoism, Mormonism and Jehovah's Witnesses. I also dabble in Philosophy, especially looking for how people seek meaning in existence and life. I love conversations about what people's questions are, and I love helping others seek answers to their own questions.
