Hello! I am a private flute/piano/music theory instructor in the South Seattle area and also in Issaquah. I have been teaching flute for over 20 years and have been teaching piano/music theory for the past 10 years. It is very important to me to continue sharing my knowledge, experience, and most of all my love of music with new students and to help them discover their own unique musical voice. I teach beginning through advanced level flutists, and beginning piano/music theory students. All ages are welcome!
I am currently Principal Flute of several Seattle area orchestras including Orchestra Seattle, the Rainier Symphony Orchestra, and the Northwest Mahler Orchestra. I have also held Principal Flute positions with the Northwest Symphony and the Federal Way Symphony orchestras. I am featured as a repeat soloist with several orchestras in the Seattle area and also appear as soloist with orchestras throughout the Western United States. I appear regularly as a recitalist in Seattle and the Pacific Northwest region, and have performed in Europe, China, and Hong Kong. In 2003 I gave my debut recital in London as a Performing Artist for the Suisse Global Artistic Foundation.
I hold a Master of Music degree in Flute Performance from the University of Northern Colorado, pursued post-bac studies in Piano and Music Composition at the University of Montana, served on the faculty of Western Michigan University, and pursued doctoral studies in Flute Performance at the University of Washington.
In addition to orchestral/solo performance and teaching, I freelance on flute in the greater Seattle area and judge music competitions across the Western United States. Former teachers/master classes include Felix Skowronek, Eric Hoover, Bernard Goldberg, Carol Wincenc, and Jim Walker. I studied piano at the University of Montana with Stephen Hesla and was the first woman in that institution's history to earn the prestigious Lowndes Maury Award for music composition.
