About Robert

Hello,

I am an easy going guy living in Ocean Beach with my wife and border collie.

I am a Certified Visiting Teacher with the San Diego Unified School District. Last year alone I substituted over 120 days in high school, junior high and elementary schools here in San Diego. Most of the time I substitute high school math, science and computer classes, because of my strength in these subjects.

When I am not substituting, I like to design websites and work with computers. In the past year I have built several websites including "Best San Diego"

On the SAT's I got a 740 in Math. I graduated the University of Colorado at Boulder in 4 years (including 1 year studying abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark) with a Business Administration degree with an area of emphasis in Information Technology (3.5 GPA).

I have plenty of experience working with students and the subjects that are taught here in San Diego.

More On Robert's Subjects

  • chess

Chess is a complex game with perfect information. Chess is complex because of the many strategies and situational decision making that is involved. However, Chess is a perfect information game because nothing is hidden, all of the information you need to make a decision is available to you. Chess is a game I learned when I was young from my Uncle, who coaches a high school Chess team in New Jersey which has made it to the nationals on several occasions. I regularly play him online and when we see each other. I beat him about 40% of the time which in my mind is pretty remarkable considering Chess is a much bigger part of his life. I enjoy playing Chess because it is a game that requires a lot of analysis and strategy to choose the best move. A lot of attack and counter attack and defensive play is involved. I also enjoy teaching kids how to play while helping them to improve their decision making skills.

  • general computer

I use computers every day of my life. I build websites, edit photographs, use ftp, code HTML, edit videos, email, surf the Internet, blogging, use various programs, use Microsoft Office products like Word and Excel, play computer games, and understand virus/adware/malware removal tools. I have built over 25 different websites. Computers and technology are integral tools in our lives and sharing my knowledge with students who are interested in computers would be a wonderful opportunity.

  • poker

Poker is a big part of my life and has been since I was very little. My parents were both poker players and my brother is a World Series of Poker bracelet winner. I play online poker every day and have played in hundreds of tournaments at casinos around the country. Poker is a game of imperfect information in that you do not know everything when you are making your decisions (i.e. you don't know your opponents hole cards). This makes poker challenging. The ability to 'read' (figure out) your opponents cards through his betting actions during the hand and your experience in that situation makes poker a game that allows the skillful players to win. I have taught dozens of friends how to play poker and they have all fallen in love with the game. I am part owner alongside my brother in our online poker school where we teach people how to play poker through videos and articles we write. I have an expert understanding of all the poker variations including: No Limit Holdem, Limit Holdem, Pot Limit Holdem, Limit Omaha High/Low, Pot Limit Omaha High/Low, Pot Limit Omaha High, 7 Card Stud, Stud Hi/Low, Razz, 5 Card Draw, and several more.
