Hi, I'm Pavel, and I've recently graduated from UCLA with a BA in English Literature- Creative Writing, and a minor in Philosophy. Throughout this time, I have been working at the UCLA Academic Advancement Program, as a Literature and English Composition tutor. In my years at the Program, I have tutored a variety of subjects to a wide scope of students, in individual as well as group settings. My specializations include Writing Composition, as well as subject-specific tutoring of the entire traditional English canon, from 8th century Anglo-Saxon poetry, through modern, postmodern and contemporary English, American literature. I also tutor critical theory, continental philosophy, and Metaphysics, European History, History of Religions, and Modernist Art.
My tutoring approach involves concentrated analysis and careful attention to detail, with an emphasis on learning how to do more with less. I concentrate heavily on paper structure and the crafting of strong thesis statements. Furthermore, my background in Creative Writing allows me to approach language from an artistic perspective. I see tutoring as a partnership, where my students and I confront texts and writing as peers. Together, we work to bring out the intellectual ideas about which my students are most passionate. Then, I try to give my students the technical tools to apply these ideas to their various academic subjects, so that eventually they can develop their own unique discourse about everything they learn.
I have also been involved in creative writing workshops since my freshman year at UCLA, and can thus provide coaching for any fiction pursuits.
