I grew up in the hearing world and partly deaf world, since I am deaf myself. I was raised to be successful in what I do. I was raised in a positive environment where people encouraged me to work hard to attain my goals. They would force me to use my voice so that others could understand me. I got my first job and realized how important it is to use my voice. The more I used it the more people could understand me. People who are unfamiliar with my voice will eventually understand it. In addition, there are many ways to communicate.
I graduated from National Technical Institute for the Deaf in 2005 with my Associate of Science degree in Business Technology. I am familiar with MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Outlook. I know how to use some applications of MS Access, but not all of it. I may remember how to do a few works from that program.
I am currently enrolled at Johnson County Community College pursuing my Early Childhood Education Associate of Science degree. I will be graduating this December 2008 after completing my five months of student teaching.
Before I entered college in 2001, I have worked at three different daycares and then during college I have worked for two families by taking care of their children ranging from 4 months old to 5 years old. I am currently working with a family who has children ages 8 and 9. When I work at the day care or with individual children I enjoy teaching the children sign language, how to cook, and how to show respect to others. I enjoy doing many things with them.
My teaching experience has been terrific. The children seem to enjoy being around me and I really love working with kids. Everyday they are ready for me to prepare their day. Seeing them smiling, laughing, and enjoying their day shows me that I am being successful.
I am a good listener. I like to listen to what they need help on and always do my best to help them out. If one method doesn't work out, then I would keep trying by using different kinds of methods until they get it. I want for them to be successful and attain their future goals.
