About Brittany:

I just recently graduated from Summa Cum Laude Mercer University with a B.S. degree in Chemistry, a minor in Mathematics and a 3.9 GPA. Throughout my time at Mercer, I participated in several academic activities beginning with my sophomore year of college. I was selected to be a supplemental instructor (SI) for an introductory Chemistry class. I would attend class with the students, take notes, and then hold 3 one hour sessions per week to practice problems, explain concepts, or go over old exams. The following year I was a part time tutor and Mercer's Academic Resource Center (ARC) for Organic and General chemistry. I had such a following that I soon had to be placed in a classroom of my own to accomodate all of the students that would attend the sessions. Because of the tremendous success in tutoring organic chemistry, the ARC decided to extend the Supplemental instruction program for this class as well. My senior year, I provided instruction for both organic and general chemistry while also taking a full class load.My senior year of college, I also decided to be a teaching assistant (TA) for organic chemistry lab. During the course of the semester, I was responsible for supervising students while they completed lab, answering questions, providing guidance, and preventing disasters. In addition to this I took on two students who needed private tutoring and requested further attention outside of the classroom. Both students proclaim that to this day they would not have been able to pass without my help.I pride myself in what I do and truly believe that helping others understand difficult concepts and building confidence is a gift that I enjoy. I absolutely love watching the students succeed and the smile on their face when they realize that they CAN do something. I believe that everyone can understand anything if given the proper tools and part of my teaching style is finding out what tools work for YOU. I really work to build confidence because I believe that this is the number one reason why students fail.
