About Lisa:

Hello! My name is Lisa and I am a recent graduate of Liberty University in Music Education. I first fell in love with music at four years old when I began piano, and since then have practiced hard to develop my musical gifting through the study, performance, competition, composition, and teaching of music. I began teaching private piano and vocal lessons eight years ago and quickly gained a diverse clientel of both adults and young children that were encouraged to learn at their own pace and given a chance to showcase their talent through performances. I recently returned from Thailand where I created a cross-cultural general music program for grades K-6, pioneered an after-school choir and produced musicals for both elementary and high school. I love helping anyone with the desire to learn music to reach their full potential!

More On Lisa's Subjects:

  • composition (music)

I first began composing music on piano in sixth grade. My piano teacher knew that this was the best way to grasp the components of music theory and to challenge my creative abilities. I entered one of my first pieces into the "Original Composition" section of the North East Regional Competition and won first place. After that encouragement I continued to pursue both classical composition through piano and led a band that played coffee shops and cafes with original songs. In college I chose to take a composition class that required drawing on every bit of music theory that I had learned to create a SATB choral piece with a piano accompaniment. I still enjoy writing music and have always encouraged my students to take their knowledge of music, regardless of level, and use it to create pieces reflecting their own style and beat!

  • ESL/ESOL

This past year I was asked to teach four grades of ESL in Bangkok, Thailand. I had no prior experience to teaching English, and no working knowledge of the Thai language. Throughout the year I was required to create individual programs for every student in each class after rigorous testing to assess each one's strengths and weaknesses in English. I have always excelled in English but found it an exciting challenge to break down the language into bite-sized pieces easy to swallow and retain. My responsibilities included testing, teaching, grading, and developing individual plans based on specific needs in the four areas of language: reading, writing, speaking and listening.

  • general music

I recently completed my first year of teaching music in Bangkok, Thailand. My responsibilities included teaching general music classes to grades 1-6, leading two after-school choirs, traveling to perform, and producing two holiday musicals. There was no set curriculum to follow when I arrived at the school, so I used the Virginia SOL's to create a yearly unit plan for each grade that utilized their materials at their level of learning to set a standard of musical excellence with an emphasis on Orff methodology.

  • piano

I began taking piano lessons at four years old and continued studying and developing piano playing throughout high school and college. I was offered a music scholarship to Philadelphia Biblical University, but chose instead to attend Liberty University. At Liberty I studied piano for five years under the tutelage of Mr.Ehrman, a grand-pupil of the pianist Schubert. I began a private piano studio 2000 with eight students and continue to offer both piano and vocal lessons at home and at school.

  • voice (music)

I have always loved to sing, but did not receive the opportunity to join a choir until high school as I was home-schooled. I did take private voice lessons at various studios however until that point. In high school I joined Tri-State choir, and was accepted into madgrigals. We competed in various competitions (e.g.ACSI) and were invited to perform at venues such as the Renaissance Fair and the Philly's stadium. In college I was in both Chorus and the Concert Choir, and took two years of private voice lessons at the collegiate level. I also sang and played in a worship band for three years in college that traveled up and down the east coast and to other countries (Brazil) performing. After college I taught two choruses and private voice lessons for a year in Thailand.
