To all those interested,
I am a senior at Southwestern University interested in helping you or your child succeed. I have lots of experience tutoring children. I used to volunteer my time tutoring in an after school program for low-income families where I worked with a 7 year old boy having trouble reading. With lots of encouragement, patience, and some fun reading material to shake things up he improved greatly.
My most recent experience is mentoring elementary school children in science in a program called SMArT (science and math achiever teams). I worked closely with a young child and taught them how to take a question they had about the world and turn it into a scientific question of inquiry they could investigate themselves with a good experimental design. After some time mentoring, I worked as a coordinator for the program, where I oversaw the progress being made between several mentors and students.
I have been tutoring since I was a child, when I was hired by my best friend's mother to help her with her homework (she had a learning disability). Being 11 years older than my little brother, I also have experience working with grouchy relative who thought my advice was a joke (though he now uses my advice).
I hope you will consider me when looking for a tutor.
Thank you,
Erica
