I was born in the city of Caracas, Venezuela, and while I was still an infant, I moved to England. My speech had not developed yet, but my language skills began to flourish to reflect who I am today. Being a native Spanish speaker, I was exposed to the English language at a very early age. This led me to speak my first words in the latter.
I spent 5 years of my life in England to then return and enroll in elementary, primary, high school and college in Venezuela. However, this educational growth took place in parallel with my language development progression. I took English private lessons upon returning until I was a teenager. My teacher moved to London, England and I proceeded to enroll in the advanced English program at the British Council in Caracas, Venezuela.
Following, I applied to become a foreign exchange student with YFU - Youth For Understanding- to polish my language skills. I spent one year with a host family in Brownsburg, Indiana, U.S.A. and joined the group of graduating seniors at Brownsburg High School.
Upon my return to Venezuela, and after beginning my university studies, I applied for admission to the professional translator program at the Berlitz School of Translation and Interpretation. I graduated successfully, and began offering services as a freelance translator and interpreter.
After working in the software and Internet industries for many years, in 2005, I obtained the Localization Generalist certification from the Austin Community College in order to become qualified to not only translate documents, but also software and web sites.
I am always learning new things in the language arena, and my professional expertise has grown in English and Spanish in parallel. Becoming bilingual has been a journey that has taken me to wonderful places in body and mind.
I always enjoy teaching what I know to help those interested become comfortable in more than one language! I adapt to the needs of the students' needs to make the best out of each class.
On a separate subject, music has always been part of my life. When I was five years old, I started my instrument exposure and learning at Academia Mozart in Caracas. The first instrument I learned was organ.
At age six, I was admitted to Conservatorio Nacional de Música Juan José Landaeta, where I took classes in music recognition, harmony, music analysis, choir, music history, composition, and music notation. I graduated as a concert pianist at age 17. While at school, I performed in several locations of the city of Caracas, and accompanied diverse soloists and choir ensembles.
As a hobby, I was part of a folklore music group, and played the mandolin. The group performed in various theaters, including the National Theater in Caracas, nestled in the historic district of the city.
In the United States, I had the opportunity to undertake and continue advanced piano studies with Mrs. Goldberg, a retired Indiana University School of Music professor. For one year, I devoted almost 100% of my time to music performance. This led me to win the state of Indiana's district and state competitions, and to qualify to perform at several churches in the city, as well as at Meridian Music, the top keyboard instrument distributor in the state.
Nowadays, I play the piano at home for my children, and have decided to explore the world of early music education by becoming a certified Kindermusik instructor.
I have taught piano students of all ages, and my classes combine several techniques, based on the level attained.
