I have been teaching/tutoring Spanish and English since my Junior year at Central High School (1998). I continued tutoring at Millsaps College where I majored in Spanish. I studied in Seville, Spain for 6 months and in Concepción, Chile for 2 months. I recently returned from a trip to Peru. I am fluent in Spanish and have worked as a translator, but my passion is teaching Spanish and ESL. I have a high success rate with my students because I use a combination of listening, reading, writing, and speaking. I believe that most classes lack the speaking portion of this method because it is not practical in large classes. One-on-one tutoring allows time for the student to actually use the language that he is learning and make use of the vocabulary. I find that it is very difficult to learn a language if you never speak it. Working with a student to bring up a Spanish grade in order to pass a class is always my priority, but I also try to teach a skill that in today's world is becoming more and more useful in the workforce.
