About Paul:

Everyone learns at their own pace and in their own style. I work to create a learning environment where we can move forward to so you succeed in your subject. We would start our tutoring with the books and materials you have, I would learn about you so we can individualize the lessons, both content and technique.
I am a former teacher. I taught 5th and 6th grades in Michigan and Colorado. As a life long learner, I enjoy sharing ideas and teaching. I received a Bachelors of Arts degree from Alma College in Alma Michigan with a major in Education and attended the Elementary Counseling graduate program at the University of Northern Colorado. I have taken courses in Microsoft Excel and HTML programming.

Reading, Math, and Social Studies were my favorite subjects to teach. I have been an Odyssey of the Mind coach, Sunday School teacher, and youth group supervisor.

More On Paul's Subjects:

  • elementary (k-6th)

After graduating from Alma College, I taught 5th grade at Lincoln Elementary School in Manistee, Michigan for two years before moving to Loveland, Colorado. The district name in Colorado is Thompson R2J. I was certified to teach in Michigan and Colorado. In Loveland I taught 6th grade at Garfield Elementary School. The fifth and sixth grade teachers grouped students for math and reading. The other sixth grade teacher and I traded classes for social studies, English and science. I taught 6th grade for 5 years in Colorado. While teaching a began a graduate school program at the University of Northern Colorado in Elementary School Counseling.

  • general computer

In the early 1980's I took a Basic Programing class thinking computers would become a major part of our lives. This has obviously turned out to be true. Since that time I have worked at gaining knowledge and experience using computer at work and home. At work, the computer systems evolved from legacy systems to Windows and webbed based applications. I learned each new system as it came along to use it and teach others I worked with how to use it. I expanded on the minimum by taking courses in Microsoft Excel and HTML programing. I also became an expert at using Act! contact management software and learned Giza CAD software. I am the go to person using new software in the workplace and home.

  • phonics

As an Elementary School Teacher I taught reading using phonics. I also used other teaching methods. Although phonics is important, not all children will respond to that method of instruction. Other methods need to be used so we can "circle back" and connect to phonics as students become more aware of words and where the sounds fit in.
