When I work with ESL students, I do not let them get away with making a lot of mistakes, just because they can be understood. I feel that if someone has sought help, it's because they want to learn how to speak and write correctly.

I am a native Californian and I have a bachelor's degree in Speech Communication.

I have taught English to executives at a factory in Costa Rica, in a class room setting, and I have tutored various individuals from elementary school children to professional adults.

Also, I have taught various Microsoft Office computer classes and have written a book called, "How to use Excel Without Complicated Formulas." I'm in the process of getting it published.

  I began teaching English as a Second Language at a language school in Costa Rica, in 1980. I started teaching two fairly small groups and then was asked to teach English to a group of high level executives at a factory. In addition, I tutored several individuals that were referred to me. Most of them were professionals (two journalists, a doctor, a teacher, etc.) and one of my students was a child. Before these teaching experiences, I never thought I would like teaching, but I found out I loved it! Helping others to speak and write in English is something I really enjoy doing. I feel it is very important to like what you do, professionally, in order to do a good job. When I work with ESL students, I do not let them make very many mistakes. I don't think it is enough just to be understood. I think that if you want to speak a foreign language, you should speak and write it as well as possible. I speak fluent Spanish, but I know that I don't speak it perfectly. I really appreciate it when other people correct my errors, so I imagine that others feel the same way about being corrected when they speak or write in English (when it is not their native language). I would welcome the opportunity to help you to communicate better in English! I also have a bachelor's degree in Speech Communication and have writing and editing experience.

  I am quite computer literate and have taught several Microsoft Office classes (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Word, and Windows XP). I have also tutored various individuals on how to use various programs. In addition, I have written two computer books that are in the process of getting published. One is called an "Introduction to Windows XP and PCs" and the other is called, "Have Fun Learning Excel Without Complicated Formulas."
