I obtained an Associate Degree in Legal Secretarial Sciences. Although I am not currently employed as a secretary, I was for many years and the benefits have been many. I am proficient with computers, work well under pressure, am patient, type 80 wpm and learned many aspects of law.
I moved to New York to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology while working at night in a law office. I graduated with a BA in fashion design. After a couple of years, I returned to school for my masters in deaf education.
In New York I was a volunteer tutor at St. Michael's in all subjects, I taught 6th grade in Brooklyn, NY (hearing and deaf). I moved to Mexico and taught English in an elementary school in Guanajuato for 2 years. At the same time, I was tutoring and teaching in my home both children and adults. I helped implement a pilot program for conversational English in a school for nursing, also in Guanajuato.
I now live in Bonita with my husband and my 7 year old daughter. I experience the challenges of helping her in her school work. She is very active and has a hard time focusing. I use techniques that fit her because I really believe it is the most effective way. I stay calm, patient and fun and when something doesn't work, I change my technique. I give her breaks when I start to "lose" her attention. We have been very successful together and she maintains a very good grade point average. I am of the belief that because all children are different in personality they are therefore different in how they learn. I do not have a one-way approach to teaching but rather try to tune-in to what will work with that individual. I am interested in results rather than getting my way.
