Greetings! My name is Steve and I love teaching. I will be starting my 17th year as an elementary school teacher this August. I am currently teaching third grade at a public school in San Mateo-Foster City. I have been with this district for six years, teaching both second and third grades. Prior to that, I taught a 4/5 combo, fourth grade, first grade, and sixth grade. I have taught mostly in California, but have had teaching positions in Italy and Japan.

I have a California Clear Multiple Subjects Credential which I received in August of 1992. I also have my CLAD credential. I've taught many second language children as well as children of different socio-economic backgrounds.

What can I say, I love teaching! I have a very good rapport with my students and they really enjoy being in my class. I try to make my classroom a safe and nurturing environment. At the same time, I have very clear expectation of my students and they understand.

I have tutored several times and am quite comfortable with the task. I am reliable and flexible. I have a wealth of materials and manipulatives that I can bring to my tutoring sessions. I look forward to possibly working with your child.

  With my California Clear Multiple Subjects Credential, I am certified to teach most subjects from grades kindergarten to six. Since I have been teaching these subjects over sixteen years across many different grade levels, I've taught just about everything in elementary school. In math, I've taught counting to 10 up to pre-algebra. In language arts, I've taught how to form a sentence to how to write a comprehensive report citing references and notations. In other words, I've covered a wide range of material across several levels and can accommodate any learning need.

• phonics

  My first experience teaching phonics came when I taught first grade at an international school in Italy. The school used a whole language method for teaching reading. This meant that there were no textbooks or premade lesson plans. With the help of some of my experienced colleagues, I was able to teach native Italian speaking children to read in English. I've taken these tools and continue to use them in my teaching today.
