I have two undergraduate degrees. The first degree I obtained is in psychology. However, I found my true calling is in teaching and so returned to college and received a second undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education. With this degree, I graduated Magna Cum Laude.
I have been teaching elementary school (grades 1-3) for the past 12 years. I have also tutored at my school for four years, in both math and language arts. For two times, I was able to loop with my students from one grade to the next, due to the request of the students' parents. I place very high expectations on my students and do everything in my power to help them reach their potentials. I enjoy learning and try to help my students reach a place where they love it as well. When a student struggles with a particular subject, that joy is hard to find. I believe assisting the child in finding a starting point and building upon each small success is key to having them reach their true potential.
I am truly an "out of the box" thinker and like to use the student's own particular learning style to teach them. I do not believe rote memorization and/or a stack of worksheets is the best method of teaching.
I have been nominated to be teacher of the year and have received many glowing reports, not only from my administrators, but from students, parents, and co-workers as well.
I believe every child can learn. I further believe I can help them do that.
