Hello! My name is Carrie, and I am a Research and Development Chemist. I am currently employed with a natural products company in Kennesaw, GA. While I enjoy my job, I really miss hitting the books! Tutoring in the maths and sciences is a great way for me to help others and keep my mind fresh. I got bit by the tutoring bug when I began teaching clarinet lessons at age 15, and I haven't stopped in the 11 years since!
I received my B.S. in Biochemistry from Northern Illinois University in 2005. While there, I took pretty much any math or science you can think of! Some of my courses included calculus, general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, biology, microbiology, and analytical chemistry. I was also a member of the Chemistry Club! While in college, I also managed to work full-time while holding down a 3.2 GPA. I know how it feels to be busy, so I'm definitely going to help you get the most knowledge/learning out of your time!
I truly love math and science, and I would love to be able to share some of my enthusiasm for these subjects with you. Often, I find that my students think they hate the material covered in their courses when we meet. However, it is usually the case that the student just has not found a good way to relate the material to their life/hobbies. I haven't had a student yet that hasn't told me that my energy and love for these subjects really helped them to like them better as well.
To make the learning process as simple as possible, I bring worked examples to each lesson and leave these with the student. This greatly helps my students as it is almost like having me there between sessions, showing them the steps and encouraging them along the way! I am also very flexible, working in whatever mode I find works best for the student. Some people tend to learn visually, while others need to converse about steps in a process before actually working a problem.
