Hi,
My name is Margaret. I have a Certificate in TESOL from Seattle University and am in the middle of my Masters program in Education-TESOL there as well. I will complete my Masters Degree in June 2009. I have obtained A's in all of my courses both in the certificate and Masters programs to date.
I have four years of experience in teaching ESL to adults, both immigrants and refugees, and to international students in an academic environment. I have taught students through the Literacy Council of Seattle at the Ballard Library, at the Southwest Center for Families and Children in SW Seattle, at ELS in Seattle, and at Edmonds Community College. I have taught beginners through advanced levels of ESL and have experience teaching Speaking/Listening, Reading and Writing to all levels. I specialize in teaching adults. |

I love to teach ESL to adults! I teach reading, writing, speaking and listening to all levels of ESL learners from beginners to advanced. I have taught students from hundreds of countries around the world.
Lessons typically start with an assessment of what students know already. Students will learn through books, exercises, music, games and by using materials that are used everyday, including newspapers, magazines and the internet.
I have over 3 years of experience at teaching ESL. I have taught many immigrants and refugees through the Literacy Council at the Ballard Libray, and through the Southwest Center for Families and Children in southwest Seattle. I have also taught English to new workers at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Seattle. I taught international students at ELS near Seattle University where I taught grammar, reading, and English through Music. Now I'm teaching at Edmonds Community College where I teach international students reading, grammar and writing.
I have a certificate in TESOL from Seattle University, and am about half-way through getting my Masters Degree in Education - TESOL, so I'm learning new and better ways to teach every day.
What do students need? They need to have an open mind. They need to have an English-English dictionary, and they need to be prepared to have fun while learning. Learning takes place at your own pace. I will focus on what YOU want to learn. Class will be about 1-1/2 hours each time, depending on our schedules.
Learning English is hard work, but it will be fun and you will learn quickly!

grammar

Grammar is not easy to learn, but is really important in learning English.
I have taught grammar for over three years to ESL students. I have taken and passed several exams in grammar for my Certificate in TESOL and for my Master's Degree in Education at Seattle University.
There are many ways to learn grammar, but most involve practice speaking and writing so that you will understand each grammar point. We will play grammar games and use a variety of materials (music, written material, chants and other things to help make grammar an easier subject for you.
I only teach adults. Classes will be about 1-1/2 hours long. I specialize in teaching grammar to students from foreign countries who are learning English and need grammar skills to pass tests or to get into university classes.
Grammar is fun! Let's start learning soon!
