About

I have a BA in philosophy and have spent the last two years working for AmeriCorps as a Spanish teacher and tutor of English. I am a native speaker of both English and Spanish. My family is from Argentina and I lived there until I was six years old, at which time I moved to Minnesota with my father, mother, and sister. Having experienced two different cultures at a very young age and having grown up in a Hispanic household while living in Minnesota has enabled me to see things from very different perspectives. I have also spent time abroad in both Latin America and Europe and this has contributed to my respect for and desire to learn about people from various cultures and backgrounds, which I hope to share with others through tutoring. I am sensitive to the obstacles and difficulties that teens and young adults face, particularly those with little economic means and those facing culture and language barriers.
In addition to my background and experience, I have various skills and attributes to useful to many different kinds of work. I learn quickly and have very good analytic and critical thinking skills honed through studying philosophy. I am open to different styles of teaching, and believe both student and teacher can benefit from this flexibility and ability to tailor each individuals' needs accordingly. Finally, learning should be fun at least some of the time, and I think a positive attitude, patience and humor go a long way in making this happen. I look forward to having the opportunity to work with you. |
