Hi! My name is Philaine and I would love to be your tutor. I am passionate about helping people become the best they can be, and I believe educational success provides a critical foundation for achieving life goals. My tutoring philosophy is that students have the capability to transform their work; they just need guidance and the right tools. As a tutor, I help students help themselves by providing the opportunity and the methods to develop their own skills.
I graduated with highest honors with a degree in English from UC Berkeley in May 2007. Since graduation, I have been working in Oakland public schools, providing Math and English Language Arts tutoring to students free of charge through a Supplemental Education Services program. As an undergraduate, I was hired by the University to tutor undergraduates in writing; I also worked as a substitute prealgebra teacher, a first and second grade science aide, a preschool teacher, and I volunteer as a high school Sunday school teacher. As you can see, I am passionate about education!
I have experience working with students of all ages, am patient and encouraging, and love working one-on-one with students. Although my concentration was literary analysis, good writing apply across disciplines. I would be happy to help you improve yours.
