About
Natalie: |
|
My name is Natalie and I am 26 years old. I have seven years of teaching experience (piano) and I absolutely love kids. I started playing the piano when I was 5 years old and continue to perform and enter competitions through high school and college. I have studied piano and piano pedagogy for two years, and have taught an adult piano class as well as a 5-6 year old group piano class. I have a piano and also travel to students' homes. I am friendly, fun, and passionate about what I do and put invested interest and time into each student. I teach mostly children but also teach adults, college students, and teens.
Background:
I grew up in Stowe, Vermont and was an avid ski racer, tennis and golf player, and pianist.
I completed my B.A. at Colby College in Music and Mathematical Science. I coached tennis and ski racing for children ages 3 to 15 throughout high school and college.
I began teaching piano my junior year in college and continued to teach in students' homes for a year while living in Portland, Maine. I also took a piano pedagogy course at the University of Southern Maine and studied piano with Laura Kargul.
In 2005, I moved to Madison, WI and in 2007 received my Master of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
In August I am moving to Brookline to attend Boston University to enter the two-year Occupational Therapy Masters degree.
THANKS!

Natalie's Experience:
ear training
|
I have been playing the piano for twenty years; for the past six years I have been teaching piano to mostly children. All of my students learn mostly by rote and by ear when they are beginning piano. I structure the lessons so that my students play ear training games, repeating games, and often learn their songs by singing and playing.
As a pianist, I learned to play by ear; I completed the Suzuki method through volume 6 and hence did not fluently read music until 9th grade.
I love teaching by ear and by rote. I have never JUST taught ear training, but it would definitely be a great experience!

I have played the piano for the past twenty years; for the past six years I have been teaching piano to mostly children.
I have completed a Masters of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and am currently pursuing a degree in Occupational Therapy so that I am qualified to treat and teach injured musicians.
I have been studying music my entire life and can structure the lesson so that we focus on note-reading, rhythm, and musicality.

study skills
|
In high school, I had a private tutor to help me study vocabulary words and also excel in math to bring up my SAT scores. I know how to group words with similar meanings together and how to use anacronyms to remember concepts and words.
I have completed a four-year Bachelor's degree from Colby College in mathematical science; I had to study extremely hard and received a GPA of 3.17.
I also completed a Masters of Music degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy and spent the past year studying introductory courses to anatomy and physiology and psychology.
