I graduated from William Penn High School in Harrisburg, PA as valedictarian. My major was mathematics. Then, I graduated summa cum laude and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in mathematics.
Throughout high school, I had the privilege of studying mathematics with an exceptionally gifted teacher, Miss Dorothy Hoy, who, in addition to teaching us the required mathematics curriculum, also introduced us to the following areas of mathematics:
Matrix algebra;
boolean algebra;
solid and analytic geometry;
the propositional calculus; and also
field, ring, and group theory. |
