About
Lynn: |
|
I have a total of 28 years of teaching in the public school system.
I have a Bachelors degree (1977)and a teaching certification for the state of Georgia in Speech Language Pathology for the public school system.
Speech therapy in the public school system was my profession for twenty years mostly at the elementary level; a couple of years for middle and high school serving regular education students as well as special needs students-kindergarten through fifth grade. I primarily screened, evaluated, and rendered therapeutic services to students with communication disorders in articulation (phonology), receptive, expressive language, developed, implemented, and spearheaded Individual Education Plans interfaced with other professionals including psychologist, parents, principals, communicate advocates, counselors just to name a few.
I have teaching certification for the state of Georgia in Preschool Special Needs (2000). I was able to use my skills in this area as a Speech Therapist working with students who were intellectually challenged.
I have teaching certification for the state of Georgia in English as a Second language(ESL-2002).
Currently, I teach ESL students grades kindergarten through fifth. In this position, I participate in an inclusion/push-in model Literacy Collaborative Program instituted by our school inclusive of teaching reading and writing to small groups of ESL students within the classroom setting. Teaching in this type of environment offers classroom continuity for the ESL student. The ESL student is able to maintain interactive learning, constant exposure to the English language expressions and other diversity of the classroom setting while learning English for pragmatic and academic purposes. The inclusion model lends the opportunity for collaboration with other teachers including the Regular Education Teacher and the Reading Recovery Teacher. Working together as a team allows maximum effort in support of academic success for all students.
I have completed graduate coursework in reading and received a reading certification of completion (2004). This accomplishment has been quite beneficial in teaching a plethora of strategies for the ESL student. Currently, I am working towards getting Georgia certification in reading.
I have a masters degree in Nutritional Sciences (1994) and some graduate work towards a PhD program in Community Promotion and Health Education (2006). Currently, I am working towards getting certification in Health Education.
In today's society it is vitally important to support students and mankind in most areas such as education, business, and health. Having a diversity of knowledge opens every opportunity for me to help people across the board. I am dedicated and passionate about educating people to survive, to live, and be productive as a human being and citizen. I believe education is the major key for success in any selected area of life.

Teaching has been my forte for the past 28 years in areas of Speech Language Pathology, Preschool Special Education, English as a Second Language, Reading, Social Studies, Science, Math, and Language Arts. Classroom inclusion has afforded me the opportunity to teach each of the areas mentioned. Today, the current educational system now requires that all teachers participate in continuous professional enrichment academic courses/staff development to support and instruct students in all content areas. Therefore, the attainment of credentials and qualifications for teaching in elementary (k-6th)not only benefits the educator, but it expands the students to oneday reach their highest potential as a professional and productive citizen.

With a Bachelors degree in Speech Language Pathology and 15 years of Speech Therapy experience have awarded me the opportunity to work with students deficient in phonology, receptive and expressive language skills. Providing therapuetic strategies and implementing them in small group settings enhanced their success. This experience now pays off in a big way. It helps me to go beyond the subject matter of teaching, but to look into the student with great success; not only for the present, but for the future. I am very proud to take my skills and expand them into the lives of school children for academic success.
