The pursuit of knowledge is a goal to be highly esteemed. It brings me great joy to have a part in the process of an individual’s education. Beginning in seventh grade I tutored special needs students as well as students who just wanted to push themselves. Over the past 12 years I have tutored a variety of students, children and adults, as a part time job as well as through volunteering. Currently, I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Ed. and Special Ed. I am certified to teach special education to children with a learning disability, cognitive impairment, or emotional impairment grades K-12. I also have an early childhood endorsement which allows me to teach pre-K and kindergarten. Last year I taught special ed. and technology classes at a school for missionary children in the Philippines. During my time there I had the opportunity to travel across South East Asia. While I was in college I had the opportunity to go on a short-term trip to Ecuador and teach English to university students. Currently, I am teaching in the Grand Rapids area and am pursuing a Masters Degree in Reading/Language Arts at Grand Valley State University. Throughout my life I have been extremely involved as a leader in ministries for children at my church and I currently volunteer tutor at Mel Trotter Mission. I have also taught piano lessons since I was in high school and am presently taking lessons to further my piano knowledge and abilities. Educating children is my passion and lifelong dream. My family and I have gone to church our entire lives. In fact, my family is made up of generations of Christian’s. Not only have I attended church on Sunday’s for the past 24 years, but I am also highly involved. Generally I have led and volunteered for children’s ministries such as a Sunday school teacher, chapel teacher, AWANA leader, Day Camp Leader, preschool teacher, and nursery. Besides this I have led a teen missions committee, been extremely involved in my youth group and have participated in various other functions. From 2002-2006 I attended Cedarville University and received a minor in Bible. During the 2006-2007 school year I taught at a school for the children of missionaries in the Philippines and I also attended a wonderful church, Greenhills Christian Fellowship and two weekly Bible Studies. This past year I became involved in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) and have been training this past spring to be a leader in the fall.

Tutoring elementary students with special needs, as well as those who just want some extra help, for twelve years has greatly assisted me with the tools I need to change the lives of students. In May 2006 I graduated with a double major in elementary education and multi-age special education. Since then I taught elementary special ed. for a year in the Philippines and this past year in the Grand Rapids area. Throughout the years I have been very involved in my community volunteering my time to tutor at Mel Trotter Mission, and several local elementary schools. My work with elementary students has extended beyond the classroom to teaching piano, and leading several children’s ministries at my church. These include programs such as AWANA, teaching Sunday School to elementary and preschool students, nursery, Vacation Bible School, and Day Camps. While in college I was a mentor to elementary students through a Big Brother Big Sister organization. There is a unique triangle that can be formed between the student, parent, and tutor through the excellent communication skills I utilize. I am a hard worker and believe in doing my best. Graduating as salutatorian of my class of approximately 240 students shows that I am a motivated and determined person.
