Children with special needs learn at a different pace than most children in regular schools, and it takes a caring tutor to be able to sit and go over tasks with children in a way in which they will understand. This may take a period of time of reviewing information regularly or it is learned quite easily. It depends on how it is presented. My son learned by "doing," not by just sitting there having someone tell him. He had to feel the experience to understand it. Sometimes he had a better way of doing it than the teacher. But, it was "right" for him. He was not able to sit for long periods of time, so it had to be fun and educational. Sometimes, he finished the work long before the others, due to his understanding of it. Make it short, fun and to the point, and he could grasp it. I am aware that all children/adults learn differently, and can devote my attention to them for as long as they need.
