 About Joseph:
Hello all, To be perfectly honest with you, I don't have a lot of experience with tutoring. I do, however, think I'm a great candidate in a few select fields if you or someone you know is looking for some extra help. A little about myself: I'm a 24 year old Caucasian male, born in Washington D.C., who has lived all across the country. My father was in the military and just got used to the idea of bouncing around from place to place, so even after retirement he kept that same mentality and dragged his little family along with him. I've just graduated from Santa Clara University with a B.A. in English (creative writing), and was recently working at Starlight Adolescent Center until they closed on the 6th of June. For those of you unfamiliar, it was a center for children with significant emotional disturbances, as well as severe personality disorders. I LOVED my job, but unfortunately the county of Santa Clara closed the facility down, and now I'm trying to find my niche somewhere else. There are a few areas that I think I'd be a great tutor in. 1. English/Writing. This is pretty obvious, as it was my major. I've got a keen eye for grammar and spelling mistakes, and am likewise fairly skilled at rewording sentences and paragraphs to create a more interesting and compelling read. I'm also a fairly avid reader, and believe I could help motivate a student whom just doesn't find reading that enthralling. My expertise/emphasis in college was creative writing, so I believe my skills would best be utilized in the writing/correcting field, however, instead of reading. 2. While math was one of my least favorite subjects in high school, I did receive all A's and B's in my math courses. I took up to Pre Calculus in high school, and followed it up with a couple Statistics courses in college. I wouldn't feel all that comfortable, though, tutoring classes any more advanced than Geometry or Algebra II. 3. Proofreading. This was touched on in the "English" paragraph above, but I'll just reiterate here and say that I've done so much proofreading over the past 5 years that I'm pretty sure I could help someone learn the skills I picked up in school. It became very second nature for me, and I think with a little time I could transfer that prowess to someone else. 4. Poker. I was frankly surprised to find this subject in the field of choices, but I am a very talented player and am positive I could improve the game of anyone interested. In thousands of games played online, I have retained a 20% R.O.I (return on investment), which is fairly uncanny if I do say so myself. I have been successful in live games as well, coming out ahead in the long run of every home game I have encountered. I am a much stronger tournament player than ring game, however, and would prefer to helping someones game in that way. If you or someone you know is looking for help in anything listed above, I'm anxious to be of service. Being that I'm a fairly novice tutor, I am not asking for top dollar. Mostly, I just would like the experience. I hope to hear from you soon. Joe
