Advanced music theory and performance opportunities are also available. Every student can expect to master music fundamentals, as well as gain the skills to continue a lifetime of ever-improving guitar playing abilities.
Since graduating from San Francisco State University with a Master’s in Creative Arts and Minor in Music, Chuck has been teaching and performing professionally for eight years in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego. Chuck has studied jazz with many renowned masters like Mingus' alto saxophonist John Handy, San Diego's own Daniel Jackson, Dr. Carl Hammond, Dr. Dee Spencer, Dr. Hafez Modirzadeh, Jim Grantham, Wayne Wallace, and John Worley.
Currently, Chuck holds a teaching apprenticeship under the direction of Dr. Carl Hammond at San Diego City College where he teaches jazz improvisation, arranging, and musicianship. Chuck’s own group, the Chuck Walker Trio, regularly performs original jazz compositions and hosts open mic jazz sessions throughout greater San Diego.
Chuck's approach to, knowledge of, and techniques for the guitar will improve any guitar player's style. In addition to a solid musical foundation, students can expect to learn music theory, practice techniques, music history, improvisation, arranging, and composition. Emphasizing musicianship and music fundamentals at all levels, Chuck encourages, inspires, and challenges his students to learn and express their talent with music.
