About
Kristin: |
My name is Kristy and I am a senior at Hayward High. I am #7 in my class and have a love for music and math. I have played the violin since 5th grade and have been first chair every year except freshman year at high school. I have performed solos, even in front of a judge, where I have received a rating of "excellent." I can even show you my plaque and ribbon. Also, I have received the National School Orchestra Award, which you can also see on demand. Besides music, I have a love for math. So far, I have taken Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2, getting A's in all of them. |

general music
I can play a variety of different instruments. I have had the privilage of having a music class since 3rd grade and it seems to come naturally to me. I can teach how to read music, and the importance and relevence of time signatures, key signatures, accidentals, analysis of the title, rhthyms, tempo, articulation, style, etc...I have had wonderful music teachers of my own and they have shown me multiple ways of learning certain aspects of music, whether the student's "light bulb" goes on right away or if it takes a little bit longer. I have actually started a "class" for my mother and my 9-year-old sister. It's been going pretty good and they are learning a lot. I want to teach others the value of music and the effect it has on our lives.

piano
Although I inherited a piano from my grandpa a few years ago, I have had a keyboard all my life. My mother taught me what she could-the notes on the keyboard as well as the staff (both right and left hands). Despite the fact that I never took lessons and that was all she could teach me, I learned very quickly on my own. I enjoy playing the piano, whether it's written music, or just to sit down and let emotion guide my fingers. I used to play organ at church while the congregation sang. (Now I lead the music.) I also play hymns everyday for my Seminary class, and for the youth activity opening exercises on tuesday nights. I am comfortable teaching those who are just starting out.

violin
I have been playing the violin since 5th grade, (and now I am a Senior) achieving first chair position in every year (except freshman year because they automatically go to 2nd violin). I have recieved a National School Orchestra Award, as well as participated in a CMEA festival at Cal State East Bay where I performed a difficult piece for a judge and was rated as "Excellent," a #2 in a 1-5 rating system. My music teacher brought in a professional string player, who taught us multiple simple tricks and exercises to enhance our playing that are easily described and demonstrated. Not only do I know how to read music, but also interpret and analyze it to make it as the composer intended.
