 About William:
As mentioned in the title, I am a professor of mathematics at a university in Marietta, Ga. But that only has so much teaching versus paperwork, so I have joined up hoping to help more students. I have quite a bit of teaching experience, from my undergraduate days, when I spent summers helping students get ready for their math courses in the next school year. I have been teaching at the university level for almost ten years now. I started in graduate school, and have taught all of the lower level college courses, including some comparable to high school courses (Algebra II and Pre-Calculus.) I have my PhD in Mathematics, and I enjoy that moment when a student begins to understand, as well as stops treating mathematics as something to be avoided. If you are one of those trying to avoid math, well, I have helped people get over their last math hurdle many a time, and I will do the same for you. But don't mind if I try to make it a little interesting for you, ok?

differential equations
I have taught this course several times over the past few years. It is one of my best, I think, as the students only have trouble with the calculus involved, which can be a bit heady. Topics I traditionally cover when I teach the course are separable and linear first order differential equations, second order constant coefficient differential equations (including systems), reduction of order formula, La Placian, Fourier Series, and Variation of Parameters. However, in addition to these, I also have studied other differential equations, including those using partial derivatives and exact equations, etc. Essentially, this is a standard course taught by anyone with a doctorate in mathematics, and I have been doing so for some time. Therefore, I am qualified and able to help a student, and would love to get this level of tutoring from WyzAnt!
discrete math
One of my very favorite courses to teach. However, this is a bit of a general title, as I have seen several different types of courses use the discrete math nomer. When I teach it, we cover permutations, combinations, mathematical induction, basic truth tables, conditional statements, relations, and some elementary graph theory. All of those topics are introductory to my own area of speciality, Combinatorics. For high school students, I have seen this name applied to different courses, usually including some of the topics I have listed above. However, if your course is different, rest assured: set theory, algorithms, and number theory also go by this name, and I have taught all of this before, and will do so again. In fact, above all else, I would call this my personally preferred subject!
