About
Dioscoro: |
|
My name is Dioscoro As my resume will attest, I am very qualified for tutoring. My qualifications include the following: Ph.D. (Mathematical Sciences), M.S. (Applied Mathematical Sciences), Master of Arts in Teaching Physics and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. I have twenty six years of teaching experience in almost all areas of mathematics in the undergraduate and graduate levels, which include College Math, Calculus, Analytic Geometry, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Discrete Math, Developmental Math, Finite Math and Probability and Statistics, and seven years of teaching experience in teaching high school math in the School of Entrepreneurship at South Shore Campus, teaching Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra/Trig, and Probability and Statistics. I was an adjunct faculty at Malcolm X College (for three semesters, AY 2004 – 2005) and at Olive-Harvey College (1 semester, AY 2005-2006), teaching general education math and college algebra.
I am an author of two volumes of Geometry workbook (unpublished) and a co-author of two volumes of the Double-Period Algebra Workbook (unpublished) which are used by our students. Our workbooks are based on the ideas that there are no complete mathematics materials appropriate for a specific audience. The sheets found in these workbooks are designed for use as class work assignments.
In order to consider the different learning styles, needs, and abilities of my students, I always apply different teaching strategies, such as collaborative learning, whole class discourse, use of graphing calculators, power point presentations using a tablet computer, use of manipulative materials and real-life examples. I am skilled in the design of challenging, enriching, and innovative activities that address the diverse interests and needs of students.
I had been an adviser to my graduate students who were doing their thesis writing in mathematics.
