Greetings parents and potential students. My name is Andy and I have been playing trumpet for fourteen years and teaching for six. I graduated from the school of music at Western Michigan University (Kalamazoo, MI) with a Bachelor of Arts in Music in 2007 and have been living in New York ever since.
While in school, I had the privilege of performing with many amazing student and professional musicians and ensembles, with concerts at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, the International Association of Jazz Education Conference (2006, 2007), and several regional and national tours. Since living in New York, I have played with man jazz, rock, and pop groups throughout the city and country, and had the pleasure to share the stage with the Latin/pop/funk band Ozomatli on a leg of their national tour.
As mentioned, I have been teaching trumpet for six years as private trumpet and marching band instructors for several school districts in Michigan. My approach covers the most basic and pertinent topics most useful for musical study. I intended to incorporate not only the technical aspects of the trumpet, but also those concerned with musicality, physical well-being/preservation, active-listening, ear training/theory, and improvisation.
