About

After I graduated from UW-Madison, I joined Teach For America in order to begin a career in teaching. I earned a degree in Spanish and decided Phoenix, Arizona would be a great place to use my skills. I taught first grade for two years, during which I successfully taught all subjects with an emphasis on English phonics, as %80 of my students natively spoke another language. I tutored a group of my students after school during which they learned how to converse, read, and write in English.
I moved on to third grade the following year. My instruction was dedicated to teaching English to foreign students; I had students from Russia, Cuba, Turkey, and Mexico. Our goal was to have these students make 1.5 year's progress in their reading fluency, and %100 of my students met this goal.
As you can see, I am a very successful teacher. I have lots of energy and my students were always excited to be in my classroom. I am currently working towards my plans to go back to school, but I miss teaching! I love teaching students how to read in English and I have earned certificates in both phonics and structured English for English Language Learning (ELL) students. In addition, I am very passionate about Spanish, which I majored in as an undergrad. I would be overjoyed to tutor in either of these subjects. |
