Well thank you for checking out my profile today! I see already that you are in need, or at least that you know of someone in need, of a little reinforcement of material, whether it be any subject of math, music, or even for the rare occasion of needed help in psychology.
I am currently attending Eastern Michigan University, nearly finished with a degree in Secondary Mathematics Education with a minor in Secondary Psychology Education.
I have already completed my requirements to fulfill my minor in Psychology. I have yet to complete Student Teaching amidst all my needed Education courses. I am in the middle of completing the last of my math courses. I planned it that way so that the highest mathematics will remain fresh in my mind going into the Education occupation. My mathematical background goes up to experience with Elementary Linear Algebra, Calculus, Calculus II, Intro to Mathematical Proofs, and Differential Equations.
Throughout my life, I have had a passion for music. My saxophone has been with me for almost 14 years, along with studying music at Owens Community College for 2 and half years. This only began about 5 years ago; so, I have a very recent background in Music Theory I and II, Aural Skills, Music of World Cultures, and Performance.
TUTORING EXPERIENCE
Having excelled in school throughout my years, I have frequently been called upon to help out with others in their classes. In high school, I participated in the SOS Tutoring Program for Elementary and Middle School students. The "tutees" definitely experienced a tremendous improvement in reading and math.
More recently, I have engaged in Pre-Student Teaching courses at Eastern Michigan, as requirements, where I would actively assist the cooperating teacher and, mainly, the students in subjects such as Algebra, Trigonometry, and Pre-Calculus.
WHAT I CAN DO FOR YOU
Eastern Michigan is known surprisingly across the nation for the quality of educators they produce. I did not know this going in. But, I have gone through a rigorous program that deals mainly with focusing on the individual needs of each student. We have been taught that many Education programs in other schools have students answer the question, "What will the teachers be doing in class?" Rather, in a more constructivist teaching curriculum, I have been required to meet the challenge to answer the very tough question, "What will the students be doing?"
As your tutor, I know that I will think about what would make your learning relevant to you personally, as well as what would make it as fun as possible. For example, in Trigonometry, the Unit Circle can be one of the driest subjects; however, I think I have come up with a surprising twist that could make it a favorite!
TEACHING STYLE
Whatever your needs are, I will start there; I will find out what you know going into the learning process. From there, we will connect the dots into what you need to learn. In my experience, students did not just have a vague idea of what I taught them. Instead, they, surprisingly very quickly, understood the concepts so well that they could, in turn, teach others well enough to elaborate on the concepts. Therefore, you will understand what you need to learn very fast. This will happen because I will be very careful in being personable, encouraging, and thorough about making sure I get any questions out of you. Because, I think with my own gifted intuition, I will know if you have a question way before you decide how dumb you think the question is. I push for understanding; and, I thrive on questions. I love learning; so, I love seeing others truly learn in the learning process with the way that it should be.
Thank you, again, for considering me to help you learn.
