About
Megan: |
|
My name is Megan, and I am so excited about the opportunity to tutor! I am currently a second-year graduate student at Baylor University in the Social Psychology Ph.D. program. My ultimate goal is to become a professor at a university upon graduating.
Throughout my academic career, my interests have varied widely, and I have always loved learning and teaching others what I have learned. As an undergraduate, I majored in both Psychology and French as well as minored in Philosophy. I had the amazing opportunity to study abroad in France for a semester, which really helped me to improve my language skills and further master my absolute favorite language - French.
I have always done well in school; however, I think most importantly I have a passion for teaching. From tutoring my own siblings to tutoring children at the Boys and Girls Club and even tutoring college students in French and Psychology, I love helping explain materials in new ways that will truly help the student understand the material.
I currently teach a lab for SPSS (statistical software program) and statistics. Additionally, I help students write and edit their psychology papers as well as understand the material in their psychology classes better. I am also writing and editing papers that are going into professional journals as well as book chapters. Thus, I can also help with any writing or editing that you may need help with.
I have such a passion for teaching! I would love the opportunity to open up the world of learning for students. I know how frustrating it can be at times, but with patience and often multiple explanations, it can be very rewarding. |

Megan's Experience:
philosophy
|
Philosophy is one of my greatest passions, so I chose to minor in it as an undergraduate at Baylor University. During that time, I learned to become very familiar with various philosophers and their ideas. From the foundational ideas of Plato and Socrates to the ground-breaking ideas of Hobbes and Locke to more recent philosophers such as Alasdair MacIntyre, I have come to love the art of philosophy.
I have taken a wide variety of philosophy classes and have studied several different topic areas. This includes: Classic History of Philosophy, Logic and Critical Thinking, History of Modern European Philosophy, Jewish Philosophy, and Philosophy of Faith. I have studied the ideas of and read the original texts of several famous philosophers including (but not limited to): Socrates, Plato, Augustine, Aquinas, Bacon, Descartes, Hume, Kierkegaard, Durkheim, Kant, Hobbes, Locke, Nietzsche, Machiavelli, and Marx.
While I was an undergraduate as well as currently in my graduate career, I often find myself reading philosophy during my free time. I believe that taking the time to read various philosophers' ideas helps me develop skills such as critical thinking as well as learn how to develop an argument. Additionally, the intense analysis that is required when reading a philosophic text is both engaging and challenging. To me, philosophy is a great door to many of life's most important questions: How does the world work? Why are things the way they are? Can you prove the existence of God? What is the nature of man?
I hope, through tutoring, to both share my love
for philosophy and to help individuals develop the critical thinking skills needed to analyze philosophy. Additionally, I hope to help them not only understand philosophical arguments but to challenge them and create their own arguments as well. In short, I believe one should learn how to engage in a conversation with the philosophers themselves.

proofreading
|
Currently, I am in my second year of graduate school in the Social Psychology Ph.D. program at Baylor. Part of my task in this program is to write, edit, and send in manuscripts for publication in professional journals. I also help my colleagues by editing their papers as well.
To date, I have written and edited a book chapter for a book that is currently in press. I have helped edit multiple manuscripts that are currently in the process of being reviewed for publication. Finally, I am also currently writing up my own manuscripts.
As an undergraduate, a paper of mine was accepted into our undergraduate journal here at Baylor along with four other papers. Upon acceptance of that paper, I entered into a rigorous process of editing and re-editing my article based on the comments and suggestions of qualified editors.
Thus, I am highly qualified to help with any proofreading or editing that may be needed for a wide variety of topics. I have written papers that have received high grades in a variety of topics: philosophy, psychology, middle east studies, history, literature, etc. I am very familiar with both APA and MLA formatting as well as quite familiar with Chicago formatting style.
