I am a NYS certified elementary teacher for grades one through six with a Masters degree in childhood education from St. John Fisher. I also have a strong background in biology from my undergraduate degree. Learning should be fun, and I try my hardest to make my lessons enjoyable for all students to increase their learning.

  I am a NYS certified elementary teacher with my Masters in Childhood Education. I have experience with grades one, three, four, and five in the public schools through my field experiences and student teaching placements. I am experienced in assessing reading ability through DRA's (Developmental Reading Assessments) at various age levels. I have experience in beginning literacy/reading instruction and both sight vocabulary development and increasing overall vocabulary knowledge. In math, I have experience in teaching and assessing basic addition/subtraction/multiplication/division skills - including a more user-friendly method of solving long-division problems. I am experienced in teaching money sense and place value, as well as telling time. Also, I have experience in teaching the fundamentals of fractions, decimals, and percents through fun, hands-on activities. I developed my own unit on 'Westward Expansion' - the growth of our country geographically starting from the Louisiana Purchase and the movement west of the pioneers and settlers. I am knowledgeable about methods to help students learn basic facts and dates from history, and also have musically involved ways of teaching the fifty states and their capitals.

  The Microsoft Office Suite is not complete without PowerPoint - the ability to use this program is a necessity in the professional and educational worlds today. I have over eight years of experience creating presentations using PowerPoint in exciting ways. I am knowledgeable about using the different entries and exits of text and graphics; methods to highlight certain material on a slide; how to use the notes page and outline versions of a PowerPoint presentation; tips and techniques for the actual presentation to a teacher or employer; and many other aspects of this wonderful program.

  The art of writing can be quite difficult, and good proofreading ability is essential. I am experienced in proofreading essays and papers up to and including Advanced Placement courses. My knowledge of the correct way to write is based on my own writing experiences. I have a gift for 'hearing' that a sentence or paragraph is not quite correct and being able to help suggest ways to improve it. I also am experienced at improving the quality of writing through proofreading by changing sentences around so that not all are the same - for example, changing 'The cat lay underneath the table' into 'Underneath the table lay the cat'. Simple, effective changes such as this example are a part of my overall English Language Arts (ELA) knowledge.
