About
Sean: |
|
I am a high school student in Columbia, and I am one of the top mathematics students in the country. In 9th grade, I was one of three South Carolinians (and the only freshman) selected to compete in the USA Mathematical Olympiad, the national equivalent of the Olympics in mathematics.
I am currently independently studying graduate level mathematics, but I am more than capable of explaining basic math ranging from Algebra I to calculus. I consider myself a good explainer, and I work well with other people.
I also have a large collection of math textbooks, and I would be willing to loan these out to my students for the duration of tutoring.
I consider my specialty to be tutoring for mathematical contests. If you or your child is interested in competing in mathematical contests such as MathCounts or the AIME, don't hesitate to contact me!

Sean's Experience:
discrete math
|
I am a USAMO qualifier (this is the equivalent of the national Olympics in mathematics), one of only 3 such qualifiers from SC in the year 2007, and the only freshman (at the time). I am thus an expert on discrete mathematics, including counting and probability. I also have a perfect SAT math score, which incorporates a firm grounding in discrete math.

general computer
|
I have no formal credentials in this subject, but I am an expert at using computers, and I am proficient at C++, Java, LaTeX, Asymptote, HTML, Javascript, Python, and Windows/Linux operating systems. I am also working toward A+ certification.
|
statistics
|
I took AP Statistics in high school, and passed it with an A+. I am still waiting for my AP test results, but I cannot envision getting a score less than a 5. I am very good at statistics, and I am even considering majoring in statistics.
