More On Selina's Subjects:

  • ear training

During my undergraduate studies at Washington State University I completed three years of eartraining. Classes consisted of sight-singing, rhythmic practice, melodic and rhythmic dictation, harmonic dictation, intervals. Once I completed my BA I began studies at San Francisco State University. During my MA I completed an additional year of upper level eartraining which consisted of melodic and harmonic dictation, sight-singing in duets and quartets, pentatonic and minor scales, intervals and chords.

  • general music

I began studying music at an early age. I completed my BA degree in music at Washington State University. My requirements included study of music theory, ear-training, history, and private lessons. I have studied classical music and have taken courses on world music and jazz history. My MA in music history has provided me with additional study of each musical time period and a broader understanding of the connection between music literature and the composers living in their particular environment.

  • music history

After completing my BA in piano performance I began a graduate program at San Francisco State University. My MA is in music history. I have spent the last three years focusing my studies on the different music time periods including: Early music/ Baroque, Classical Era, Romantic Era, Impressionistic, and 20th Century. My research has included composers and music literature from all of these periods. Currently I am finishing the research and writing of my music history thesis project.

  • music theory

I began to study music at the age of eight. Throughout my primary education I took music lessons and participated in music programs at school which provided me with music theory practice. In college I was required to complete three years of music theory coursework for my BA degree. Each semester I received the grade of A. In my masters degree I was required to complete graduate level music theory with schenkerian analysis, which I also received the grade of A.

  • piano

I have been playing piano for eighteen years. After high school I studied piano performance at Washington State University where I graduated with my BA. While enrolled at WSU I had a studio of piano students. I teach with the Faber & Faber Piano Adventures teaching method. I find the lesson, theory, and performance books to be well rounded for students of all ages. There are also young child, older beginner, and adult series of the Piano Adventures books that I have utilized in teaching as well.
