About
Brandon: |
Hi! I live in Costa Mesa, CA, and have a solid background of teaching experience. Since being a math tutor in high school and a Teacher's Aide in college, I have been in the educational field for three and a half years both academically as a substitute teacher and non-academically as a group home worker and counselor. As such, I can accommodate eager or reluctant learners, as well as everything in between. I have taught virtually all levels of all subjects to teenagers, though Math and English are my strongest traditional subjects. I spent a year and a half in Jerusalem, Israel getting a Master's Degree in Biblical History and Geography. Consequently my very best subject is Biblical Studies, though I have some experience with the religions and history of the Middle East.
I have a passion for teaching and helping students realize their potential. I am generally energetic and enthusiastic, but I read students well and adjust to meet individual education needs, as all students are different. My students receive much by way of affirmation for a job well done, and I do my best to see the best in them. That being said, I am persistent with students who have difficulties, and have had much success encouraging them to keep trying until they see positive results. |

I graduated from Biola University in 2004 with a Bachelor's Degree in Christian Education and a minor in Biblical Studies. More recently, I graduated from Jerusalem University College in Jerusalem, Israel with a Master's Degree in Biblical History and Geography. While there I spent considerable time reading and studying the Bible in its historical, cultural, geographic, and archaeological contexts.
Aside from my formal training, I have taught in several chapel services for Christian schools, and was the speaker for a 10-day Bible camp for high school students. Also, I have had the distinct privilege to teach in a few church settings, from leading a junior high, high school, and college meetings up to teaching from the pulpit on Sunday mornings. In addition, I currently am the co-host of a weekly radio show that focuses on religion, where I am considered the "Biblical Studies Guy." I have used and plan to continually use my training in the aforementioned contexts and others as I am able.
I would be willing and able to adopt a curriculum and teach through it, field questions from students, or even create my own curriculum and lesson plans. I am familiar with the study tools and theology texts on my bookshelf, and would be comfortable with subject matter geared towards a younger audience up through adult-level material.

I recently earned a Master's Degree in Biblical History and Geography from a graduate school in Israel called Jerusalem University College. While there, my coursework involved intense study of both Christianity and Judaism, in both their modern and ancient forms. In studying the culture and land of Israel, I had to learn about ancient cults, archaeology of religious sites, and the various religions that have had a bearing on the Middle East, most notably Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.
Though I took time off to go to school overseas, I am now back as a co-host of a radio show that expressly looks at and evaluates world religions and how they compare to each other. On the show we focus on the practical outpouring of different religious views and how that practicality stems from the core beliefs of a given religion. Consequently, I have a broad understanding of the core issues of many religions, as well as how they are alike and how they are different. I keep up on the topic by reading about religions from a variety of authors, so it is not difficult for me to find answers to a question for which I might not already know the answer.
As a part of a religiously oriented radio show, I am able both to express my own beliefs with conviction when appropriate, but also to keep them quiet and hidden so that I can fairly understand and dialogue about opposing views. I am able to keep my own biases aside if necessary in order to evaluate and interact with religious data honestly and fairly.
