I am currently teaching grammar and writing at a local college, and I was a student teacher for an American literature survey course at CSU Sacramento during the spring 2008 semester. In both settings, I have had great success with my students, and I have had a high student retention rate. Although my most recent teaching experience is with adults ranging in age from 18 to 60, I have also successfully tutored children as young as 8 in reading comprehension.
I rely on a variety of teaching methods, including guided activities in which I work with students on a particular assignment/issue, individual work in which students apply what we've been discussing on their own, and games in which students practice and improve what they've been working on.
I have a master's degree in English with an emphasis on literature, and a bachelor's in English with a concentration in American Literature. I am also a member of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honors Society.
I love reading and writing! And I love teaching!

I have taught approximately 6 grammar courses in classes of up to 30 students. Some of my former students have been ESL students. All of my students have done well--even those who professed absolute loathing for English grammar! I also apply my knowledge of grammar when evaluating students' papers.

As a grad student in literature, I wrote countless 25-page papers that had to be error free. As a student literature teacher, I proofread student papers as part of the evaluation process. As a composition teacher, my proofreading skills have been especially useful in helping my students improve upon their writing.
