About Amanda:

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and express my interest in becoming a personal tutor. I graduated from the State University of New York at Cortland with a Bachelor of Science in Education and a concentration in History. In New York State, I am certified to teach grades 1-6 in New York State. My outstanding academic preparation and my experience working in various school settings with children of diverse ability levels have provided opportunities for professional growth. As a committed teacher I have a strong commitment to educating young children. In my experiences in a classroom, I have always believed that relating the lessons to the learners is the most essential tool. I employ a varied mix of teaching strategies and technologies to involve students in the lessons. I determine what will best meet the needs of the individual student. My hope is to ensure that every student is presented with many opportunities for self-expression and achievement in learning situations. One of my key strengths is my positive outlook on the success of learning. I graduated from the State University of New York at Cortland with a Bachelor of Science in Education and a concentration in History. I am certified to teach grades 1-6 in New York State. The majority of my experiences are within diverse elementary schools and at various grade levels. I have worked in all curriculum levels within each classroom.

grammar

As an educator trained in grades 1-6, grammar and its components are a large component of the English Curriculm. I have experience in the different levels of grammar from each classroom level combined with my known higher grammar education.

phonics

I have training in the use of phonics throughout grade levels 1-6. Additionally, my graduate studies are heavily influences by linguistics, both in the first and second language realms. Meaning, I have knowledge concerning the development of language sounds, and formations.

study skills

As I have grown and continued my education, I have increasingly developed my own study skills which have constantly improved my GPA. I have used numerous methods, as note cards, outlines, study guides, mnemonics, repetition, and re-reading to improve and expand my own knowledge. I believe the key to success in study skills is finding the method that works best for the learner and allowing them to connect with the information.
