 About Caroline:
The use of our new information highway, the internet, makes reading the first, most important skill students need to learn today for becoming successful in the future. My name is Ms. Caroline. I attended Rowan University, where I received my BA and Teacher of the Handicapped certification with concentration in Reading. I continued with my education, completing my master’s degree and began teaching Critical Thinking at a local college in the evenings. During the school year, I work as a reading tutor, using the Wilson Reading system among other strategies. Growing up, I was fortunate to receive voice and piano lesson, and continued my music training through high school. I used my experiences and talents and taught myself to play the harpsicord and guitar. I continue to play both the piano and guitar, along with singing for my own enjoyment. Each of the above experiences has given me an appreciation for the knowledge I have gained and the initiative to share my talents and knowledge through teaching and tutoring. Thank you for considering me as a tutor.

Learn More About Caroline's Experience:
philosophy
I am currently working at a local college, teaching Critical Thinking one of the basic courses in the philosophy department. I find the subject very interesting and my students have commented about how the course helps them in all aspects of their lives.
phonics
Upon request, at a former teaching position, I became interested in the Wilson Reading System. I attended workshops after which, I began tutoring students afterschool and using the information in the classroom to assist some of the students in my classes. This past year, I had the pleasure of exclusively teaching the Wilson Reading System to a number of students and found it a very positive experience. The students I taught, quickly were able to use what they learned in their classes as well as in their daily lives. One of my students began at level 3, just barely able to read and now is at level 6. This progress was made in a 6th month time frame. I am happy to say, she was motivated to continue on evey though she was moving to another district.
piano
Piano has been a great influence in my life. I started playing in second grade, taking lessons at my elementary school. I continued with piano lessons until graduating 8th grade and then began to use my talent and what I had learned in high school. Joining the choir was very important to me, but I wanted to use my piano knowledge also. I not only sang, but played piano to accompany the choir on a number of occasions. I also taugh myself to play the harpsacord for accompanyment, which I found easy because of my background in piano. My piano followed through the years, and I occasionally taught piano lessons from my home as my children grew up. During my first teaching position, I was asked and did play the piano, regularly accompanying the string orchestra and band on occasions. I no longer have a piano in my home but when I visit anyone with a piano, I sit and play.
voice (music)
I began singing in church for the guitar mass with two other girls. We not only took turns singing and playing, but harmonized some of the songs. During high school, I joined as many choirs as I could and took singing lesson in school and outside of school. I still enjoy singing at local coffee shops on open mic nights.
