I have been able to read since I was two years old. I have had a library card since I was four. My first public school experience was University of California at Berkeley. Being the oldest child in my family, I am the resident tutor to my younger siblings. I also peer tutored calculus at the Learning Center at UC Berkeley. I have taught adults Medical Assisting and substitute taught in diverse school districts in California. The greatest challenge for me is for the student to comprehend-- for that concept to sink in--for the "light bulb" to go on! I enjoy chess, coaching volleyball and basketball. I read voraciously and my favorite place is the local library. "Scientific American" fascinates me every month. I believe that the teacher is guide and observer. I provide structure to problerm-solving but I have high expectations of independent critical thinking.

  I have taken courses in Anatomy including Neuroscience with medical and graduate students at Howard University, College of Medicine. We dissected cadavers and had practical and written examination. I have taught to Medical Assistant students a comprehensive course in Anatomy and Physiology in their vocational training.

  I have worked with students kindergarten through sixth grade as asubstitute teacher, improvising lesson plans and objectives in the absence of the classroom teacher of record. I have taught multipe subjects including mathematics, chemistry, physics, and biology. I attempt to use an integrated approach to capture the students' interests and develop critical thinking skills.

  I have tutored Calculus at the Learning Center at University of California, Berkeley. I learned that people have little understanding on how to study. I have facilitated workshops for students interested in the health field. I have learned how to take effective notes for lectures using shorthand and "statement pie". I have researched time management protocols that would be effective for the working adult. Setting up a problem to solve is fundamental to study skills enhancement!
