 About Nancy:
All through my childhood I had the desire to be a teacher. I loved being in front of the classroom and engaging in the learning process with my fellow students. After receiving a degree in English and a minor in Spanish Studies from Santa Clara University, I had the opportunity to work for two years at a small grade school in California. I served as Kindergarten aide, Kindergarten teacher, and in the second year, Librarian for grades K-8. As I considered graduate work in English, I was drawn to the idea of teaching at the college level. I decided to pursue a master's in English so that I could teach at the community college level. While taking classes for my master's on a part-time basis, I began working at my alma mater, Santa Clara University, where I was able to hone my writing skills in the capacity of newsletter writer/editor and Web site manager. I came to realize that I belonged in a University setting, but not necessarily as a teacher! Ultimately, I put my master's in English credits towards a writing degree and ended up with a master's in Creative Writing from San Jose State University. It was the perfect combination of literature and writing! I worked at Santa Clara University for eight and a half years, until deciding upon another career change, this time in quite a different direction! I have since moved to Hawaii and am pursuing a career in massage therapy. I have never been so excited about science in my whole life. The amazing form of the human body enthralls me and I am delighted to have the opportunity to be learning more about it and to be able to help people feel better through my work with them. As a lover of language, I especially like the study of anatomy and physiology, which incorporates both Greek and Latin in the naming of many body parts and processes! As a teacher and tutor, I have an attentive style which takes into account the individual needs of the student and develops a lesson accordingly. As I understand that there are a number of different styles of learning (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc.), I target lessons based on each student's preferred and natural methods of acquisition. I look forward to working with you and sharing with you my love of learning!

Learn More About Nancy's Experience:
anatomy
As a current student of massage therapy, I have been studying anatomy extensively for the last six months. Because my success as a therapist relies on my understanding of the body and all its parts, I have placed a high priority on my anatomy and physiology studies and have therefore defined myself as the top science student in the class. As such, I am able to serve as a resource to many of my classmates for whom science presents many challenges. I look forward to sharing this knowledge with you!
grammar
As a lifelong student of the English language, I have an intimate knowledge of its structure. I can still remember diagraming sentences in my 8th grade grammar class. Those diagraming exercises provided an excellent foundation for my future English studies and encouraged my decision to select "Language and Linguistics" as one of my emphases in my major. Taking university courses such as "Linguistics" and "Theories of Modern Grammar," I was able to build upon that early foundation and continue to hone my skills as a linguist and grammarian. I look forward to sharing my love of the English language with you!
physiology
As a current student of massage therapy, I have been studying physiology extensively for the last six months. Because my success as a therapist relies on my understanding of the body and all its systems, I have placed a high priority on my anatomy and physiology studies and have therefore defined myself as the top science student in the class. As such, I am able to serve as a resource to many of my classmates for whom science presents many challenges. I look forward to sharing this knowledge with you!
proofreading
Having worked for eight and a half years as a writer, editor, and Web site content manager in a university environment, I was continually required to hone my skills as a proofreader. Colleagues relied upon me to catch errors in publication proofs and business documents that they had not caught in their own proofreading. My acute attention to detail serves me well as a proofreader and I look forward to sharing those skills with you.
