As a native Spanish speaker in my native Puerto Rico, I learned English along with Spanish in school. It was not until I took a Conversational English class in college that I encountered some of the difficulties with pronunciation, colloquialisms and informal expression. Once in Texas, I lived in Corpus Christi for many years, and learned first hand about the difficulties that many Hispanic persons had in learning and communicating in English.
