About
Romy: |
|
Hello, my name is Romy and I am originally from Germany. I attended the University of Education in Freiburg for three semesters, majoring in bilingual teacher education (German and English) before moving to the United States at the age of 24. While attending the university, I tutored two 5-year-old Russian immigrants in German in order to eliminate the language barrier once they enter school. I also completed an internship at a local elementary school where I learned a lot about teaching styles.
After moving to the United States, I started going back to college and am now in my senior year at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. I am majoring in Modern Languages and Linguistics (German and Spanish) and am also in the accelerated BA/MA program. As part of the program, I am taking graduate classes in German. During all my course work in the United States, I have received A's. I am also a First Team Member of the All-Maryland Academic Team, a Distinguished Maryland Scholar, and have received numerous honors, awards, and scholarships.
Although English is my second language, I feel very confident speaking it and know the grammar very well. I have been studying it for 16 years and have no doubt that my English is just as well as that of native English speakers. To give you an example, I was the only non-native speaker in my composition and literature class and the only one to receive an A at the end of the semester, so you will be in good hands if you choose me to be your tutor.
I am a hard worker, but I expect the same from my tutorees. While my teaching style is relaxed and fun, it is also demanding. However, there is no need to be scared. I will answer all of your questions and explain everything that you might struggle with until you feel confident and strong about it. If you decide to put your trust in me, you will not be disappointed. |

I have been studying English for more than 16 years now and feel very confident speaking it. I would even say that my competency and fluency in the language is just as well as in my native one(German). In my academic course work at US universities, I have consistently received A's, which proves that I am a very good English speaker. I am also very fond of the English grammar because I have learned English in the classroom as opposed to applying rules without knowing the reason. Furthermore, I know what it takes to be successful in learning English because I have gone through the same process and can help you achieve the same.

Student Reviews:
Great instructor
This instructor was very patient and able to effectively teach even someone with no previous experience. Was very flexible with times and location for the lesson. Came prepared and made the lesson interesting. Recommended.
