About
Erica: |

Hi! My name is Erica. I have just finished my BA in English from James Madison University located in Harrisonburg, VA. While pursuing my degree, I took a variety of English courses focusing on different literary genres as well as grammar. (See list below). I also finished my BA with a minor in secondary education. I am familiar with different learning styles and methods of teaching, and I will strive to meet the needs of my students.
In high school, I took many AP courses which included European History, American History, American/Comparative Government, English Composition, English Literature, and French. The knowledge I gained from these courses helped me to further understand and develop my passion for English literature and language.
I grew up in Virginia and spent my youth swimming on the swim team, life guarding, and then ultimately managing a pool for the previous two summers. I recently moved to New York to pursue graduate education.
As an adult, I love to cook, travel, and run. I am hoping to run in a marathon some time in the near future, but we'll see if that happens.
I hope you're interested and I can't wait to hear from you!

I love the English language. It is like a puzzle to me. All the pieces of a puzzle fit together to make a picture. All the part of speech and punctuation create a beautiful sentence. Using this comparison, I can explain the semantics of the language. Nouns and pronouns are subjects of a sentence and can be compared to focal points of a picture. Adjectives and adverbs are descritptors; they compare to the colors and characteristic of the puzzle that make it more than just a focal point.
In college, I took multiple grammar and writing courses. In each of these courses, I had to focus on the aspects of language. In grammar, I focused on the basics and the building blocks of language and then in my writing courses, I used the foundations I learned in grammar to generate papers.
I can diagram sentences in my sleep and I can proofread and edit papers not only for content, but also for construction.

Can you swim all four strokes?
I can.
Can you bilateral breathe?
I can.
Can you float on your back?
I can.
From the most basic swimming skills to the more complex attributes, I can help anyone achieve their desired level of swimming. I used to swim year round on a swim team for my community and my high school. My specialty was distance swimming, but I can do all four strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breastroke, and butterfly.
I have given numerous swim lessons to children and adults of all ages in individual and group settings. I am a Red Cross Certified Lifeguard. I also hold certifications in CPR and First Aid.
I love the water and I want to make people feel comfortable and confident in their abilities to swim.
