ear training At American River College I took 2 years of music theory where half of the class was dedicated to written theory taught by one teacher, the other was ear training, taught by another teacher. I also received my Associates in Jazz Studies, jazz curriculum in particular places a huge emphasis on ear training. I also sang in a DownBeat Award winning Vocal Jazz Ensemble for two years that required singing is very tight harmonies, which is ear training in and of itself. general music I have been singing in school for around nine years now. I have taken 2 years of music theory/ear training, one of the semesters being a course in jazz theory. I just received an Associates in Jazz Studies from American River College. music theory I took 2 years of music theory at American River College, one of the semesters was in jazz theory. I have also taken 2 semesters of jazz piano and jazz improvisation classes which require students to apply the theory knowledge they have, in addition to learning many new things. voice (music) I have been singing in school for nine years now. I have also been in private lessons for classical and jazz. I was in the Sacramento Youth Chorus and Sacramento Children's Chorus. I then came to American River College and was in the beginning Vocal Jazz Ensemble for a year, I then was accepted into the advanced vocal jazz ensemble which is a DownBeat Award winning group. I sang in New York at the International Association of Jazz Educators Conference with that group in 2007.
