More On Davin's Subjects:

  • elementary (k-6th)

I currently hold a California Multiple Subject Credential in the state of California. I have been a fulltime teacher for the past 4 years and previous to that, I was a substitute teacher for almost 2 years. My first full year of teaching, I taught a 5th-6th grade combination class and had to complete curriculums to teach. Since then, I have only taught 6th grade. During my student teaching, I taught in a 1st grade classroom, 3rd grade classroom, and did my final semester in 5th grade. During the time I was a substitute, I taught in kindergarten through sixth grade and almost every subject in seventh through twelfth grade.

  • ESL/ESOL

When I did my course work for my credential, ESL courses were included. I took specific courses on how to adapt my lesson plans to students that English is their second language. In every class I have taught as a fulltime teacher, I have had no less than 40% of my students that were English language learners.

  • study skills

As a 6th grade teacher it is my job to prepare my students for 7th grade. In 7th grade, students have at least 6 teachers during the course of a day. That is an immense difference than having the same teacher for every subject. So I feel that it is my job to help students create first-class study habits to help them be better organized for this difficult task. I teach them how to take proper notes and arrange them so that they are easy to locate from subject to subject. I instruct them on how to differentiate the important information from the less important information. I train them how to use note cards when doing research to keep different ideas classified for the correct source. These study skills are universal among all students and are difficult to obtain.
