About Laura:

Thanks so much for reviewing my profile. I am a professional educator and clarinetist. I have played clarinet for 35 years, and 7 of those were spent as a member of the US Air Force Band program. I have 13 years of public school teaching experience, and I enjoy working with students at all levels of experience. I can help you find your way over the hurdles of beginning clarinet, or help you prepare to become a college music major. My experience in music theory and history was gained during my training for my master's degree in conducting. I have extensive experience teaching both disciplines at the secondary and college level. My lessons are enjoyable, but are not appropriate for the casual learner who is not goal-driven and invested in the process of continually acquiring new skills and knowledge. I welcome the opportunity to partner with you in your quest to become a more accomplished student of music.

More On Laura's Subjects:

I have played clarinet for 35 years. Although my degrees are in education and conducting, I spent my college years becoming the best musician possible, with clarinet being the primary medium for that goal. I have taken private lessons with symphony clarinetists from Utah, Philadelphia, and Kansas City, and was a performer at Robert Marcellus' master class at Northwestern University. I have taught all levels of clarinet, and was an adjunct faculty member at Univ of Utah. I have started hundreds of clarinetists as a beginning band teacher, and all of my private students have received top ratings and seats in all-state bands when they auditioned for festivals.
